Honest MinutesWe state exactly how long the cold lasts. No cap. (Well. One cap.)
Not “just a headache.” It never was.

The words they use for it are all machinery.

“A vice grip, tightening around the forehead.”

“A jackhammer, going behind one eyebrow.”

“Ice picks, straight down behind the eyes.”

Migraine is a complex neurological condition affecting 10 million people in the UK — The Migraine Trust.

What is The Melt?

Two minutes in, the cold soaks through. The vice loosens. The light stops screaming. Sufferers describe it the same way every time: the pain doesn’t vanish — it melts down to something you can ride out.

That’s The Melt. Cold, dark, quiet and a gentle pressure that’s on your side, all arriving at once. It’s what you’re buying.

In 1873 the first great migraine textbook prescribed ice and darkness. We industrialised it.

The honest minutes.

Cold caps stay properly cold for about 20 minutes. All of them. Anyone who says otherwise is selling you one. That's why the Rotation Kit exists — one on, one freezing.

The Protocol.

Step 1: Go dark
1

Go dark

Curtains drawn, phone face-down, lights off. You have run this routine a hundred times. This time it has kit.

Step 2: Cap on, halo down
2

Cap on, halo down

Out of the freezer pouch and on, halo pulled down over your eyes. Cold all the way round. Dark all the way down.

Step 3: Feet in hot water
3

Feet in hot water

The old trick — heat at the feet, cold at the head. If you know, you know. If you don’t, try it once.

Step 4: Twenty minutes of somewhere else
4

Twenty minutes of somewhere else

Lie still and let The Melt arrive. When the cold fades, swap for the spare and repeat.

Built from the complaints

We read 44,000 reviews of the American caps. Then we built ours out of the complaints.

“It smells like the freezer.”

Every gel cap picks up food smells eventually — unless it never touches the food. Ours lives in its own sealed freezer pouch. No smells, no swapping shelf space with the peas.

“It froze my ears.”

Freezer-cold gel on bare ears is its own small misery. The ear zone uses a softer touch, and the kit includes a knitted ear band for the truly cold-sensitive.

“The cold died in eight minutes.”

Proper cold lasts about 20 minutes in every cap on earth, including this one. We print the number — and the Rotation Kit keeps a second cap freezing while you wear the first.

“Too heavy on a sore head.”

A sore head counts every gram, so the weight is stated plainly on the spec sheet — no surprises. What you feel is a gentle, even squeeze, not bulk.

“One wash ruined it.”

The gel core never goes near a washing machine. The sleeve unzips, washes and dries on its own; the cap stays exactly as it arrived.

“Freezer-cold is too much for me.”

A real segment, not a quirk. Run it fridge-gentle instead, or give it a short spell in the microwave for the warm version. The dual mode is the answer, not a caveat.

The vice loosens

Two minutes in, the cold soaks through and the vice starts to loosen. It does not take the pain away — nothing does — but it turns a nine into something I can ride out in the dark. It is kind of my best friend now, which is a strange thing to say about a hat.

The light stops screaming

That is the only way I can describe it. Cap on, halo pulled down, curtains already shut, and the light finally stops screaming at me. Twenty minutes of somewhere else. I still lose the day sometimes. I no longer lose it in pieces.

Gemma H. · Cardiff · 2 May 2026 Verified buyer

Ordered it expecting to send it back

I have a drawer full of things that were supposed to help, so I ordered this fully expecting to use the guarantee. The 60 days was honestly the only reason I risked it. It has not left my freezer since March. Nothing works for everyone — this works for me.

Priya N. · Leicester · 19 April 2026 Verified buyer

Bought it for my wife

Fifteen years of standing on the wrong side of that door, able to do precisely nothing. You cannot fix it for them. You can put this in the freezer. She says it makes the worst ones more bearable, and she does not say that about anything.

Mark D. · Stockport · 30 June 2026 Verified buyer

Honest four stars

I wish it stayed cold longer. You get a proper twenty minutes, then it starts to fade — which, to be fair, is exactly what they tell you on the page, and apparently every gel cap does the same. That is why you need two. One on, one refreezing. Star withheld for the week I spent with only one.

Eleanor F. · Norwich · 27 May 2026 Verified buyer

Fits my actual head

Thick curly hair past my shoulders and it still pulls down over my eyes properly — full blackout, no gap at the nose. The soft zones mean my ears do not freeze, which finished off every other cap I have owned. First one that fits my actual head and my actual hair.

Jade M. · Sunderland · 8 July 2026 Verified buyer

My sister made me try hers

I was rude about these in a comment section once, more than once actually. Then my sister made me try hers mid-attack. It is an ice pack — one that covers everything at once, blacks the room out and does not drip down my neck. I ordered my own from her sofa before the twenty minutes were up.

Tom B. · Falkirk · 22 March 2026 Verified buyer

Two in rotation, always

Two caps in rotation, sealed in their pouches so nothing smells of the freezer. Swap at the twenty-minute mark, and there is always cold when I need it. My old caps picked up the smell of fish fingers inside a week. These have not, and that alone was worth the upgrade.

Ruth C. · Shrewsbury · 5 April 2026 Verified buyer

Fridge, not freezer, for me

Full freezer cold is too much for me — it always has been, and I thought that ruled these out. I keep mine in the fridge instead, and warm it for the tension ones. The gentler version still does the job. Nobody else tells you that you are allowed to do that.

Aisha K. · Luton · 3 June 2026 Verified buyer

My mum sent it

I felt awful, because I was certain it would join the drawer of things that do not work and I would have to pretend. It is on my head as I type this, half over my eyes. My ice hat is my saviour is a strong sentence. I am using it anyway.

Lauren P. · Plymouth · 15 July 2026 Verified buyer

Third one I have bought

People keep taking them. My daughter first, then my sister borrowed hers and it never came home. The box gives nothing away in an office post room, and the note I typed at checkout arrived printed word for word. Buying a fourth before Christmas, clearly.

David O. · Wrexham · 11 May 2026 Verified buyer

Pressure without the squeeze

Gentle pressure all the way round, without crushing my skull the way the cheap one did. It holds all my hair off my neck and the dark is total. I grab it, curl up in a ball, and wait it out. The bad day still comes. It is just less of a war now.

A confession, before the pitch.

“It’s an ice pack with marketing.” That was me, in the comments.

Then the blackout came down, The Melt arrived, and I ate my words slowly. Bad day — still bad, but survivable ↓

The Worst-Day Guarantee

60 days. Real bad days, not a quick try-on.

If it doesn’t make them more bearable, every penny back — and you keep the eye pillow, the pouch, the Ear Band and the Protocol.

Judge it on a real bad day

Sixty days is long enough for the bad days to actually arrive. Keep it in the freezer, use it when one comes, and judge it on the worst of them — not on a curious ten minutes in a bright kitchen.

Every penny back — keep the extras

If it doesn’t make your worst days more bearable, tell us and we refund the lot. The eye pillow, the sealed pouch, the Ear Band and the Migraine Day Protocol stay with you. No labels to print, no questions that are really accusations.

Why we can promise this

Because almost nobody takes us up on it. No miracle claims — one small promise, made in the community’s own honest words: more bearable. That promise survives contact with real bad days, which is the only test that matters.

Sending it to someone?

You can't take the bad days away from someone you love. You can put this in their freezer.

If you're here, you've probably watched someone you love disappear behind a bedroom door — curtains shut, plans cancelled, voice at half volume — and felt the particular uselessness of standing on the wrong side of it. Nobody is asking you to fix it. You can't. What you can do is make the bad days slightly less brutal to get through, and have that ready in the freezer before the next one comes.

Add a gift note at checkout and we print it properly — no scrawl on an invoice. The box is quiet and deliberately non-medical: nothing on the outside announces a condition to a hallway or an office post room. What arrives looks like a considered gift, because that is exactly what it is.

It arrives tracked and ready for the freezer. And the Worst-Day Guarantee travels with the gift — they get to judge it on a real bad day, not out of politeness to you. If it isn't right for them, they lose nothing, and neither do you. You were kind either way.

— the DUSKHALO team

Asked before every order.

How long does it actually stay cold?
About twenty minutes of proper cold, then it fades. That is true of every gel cap on the market, whatever their adverts imply — it is the physics of gel, not a flaw in one brand. The real answer is rotation: one cap on your head, one in the freezer, swap and go again. That is why the Rotation Kit exists, and why most people choose it.
Will it fit my head — and what about long or thick hair?
One-size stretch, tested across a genuine range of head sizes and hair volumes. Long or thick hair works best pulled into a low, loose knot or left down — the cap stretches over it and several owners tell us it usefully holds their hair off their neck. The soft zones sit over the ears so they take gentle cold, not a freezer burn. If it genuinely does not fit you, the Worst-Day Guarantee covers it.
How do I wash it?
The outer sleeve comes off and machine-washes at 30 degrees. The gel core wipes clean with a damp cloth — never machine-wash a gel core; that is how the category's most famous one-star review happened. Between uses the cap lives in its sealed pouch in the freezer, which is why it never comes out smelling of last month's dinner.
Cold makes mine worse. Is this still for me?
You are a real segment, not an oddity. Two routes: keep the cap in the fridge instead of the freezer — a much gentler cold that many people prefer, especially around the ears — or use it warm: twenty seconds in the microwave turns it into the heat version. The Protocol card in the box covers both rituals. The blackout works exactly the same either way.
I'm pregnant and can't take my usual medication. Can I use this?
Many medication-restricted sufferers rely on cold and dark precisely because they are two of the few options left on the table. The cap is a gel cold pack and a blackout layer — nothing pharmacological, nothing absorbed. That said, we are a cap company, not your care team: check with your midwife or GP before adding anything to your routine.
How fast is delivery?
UK stock, tracked. Order by 2pm and it is in your freezer within 48 hours. No customs forms, no 7–18 business days waiting on a parcel from America while the bad days keep their own schedule.
What exactly does the guarantee cover?
Sixty days, so you can judge it on real bad days rather than a curious try-on. If it does not make them more bearable, tell us — the refund is the full amount, and the kit extras stay with you. The full terms are in the guarantee panel further up the page.
Is this a cure?
No. Nothing we could sell you is, and anyone implying otherwise deserves your scepticism. What the cap does is physical and honest: cold, dark, gentle pressure, quiet — the things sufferers already reach for, engineered properly and ready in the freezer. It will not stop the bad days coming. Owners tell us it makes them more bearable — survivable is the word that keeps appearing. That is the whole promise, and it is the only one we make.
